RECAP: Fast start propels WVU women to Big 12 semis

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - A fast start and a strong finish send six-seed West Virginia back to the Big 12 semifinals after the Mountaineers upset three-seed Oklahoma State 69-60 Saturday night.

WVU roared out the gate, taking the lead 21 seconds into the contest and ballooning that lead to 15 points in the second quarter.

The Mountaineers had to fend off the Cowgirls’ attempt at a comeback in the second half, but still managed to lead by a game-high 17 in the fourth quarter.

They led for 39:39 in the game due in large part to the play of their supporting cast. While Cheryl Miller Award finalist Teana Muldrow was limited to 10 points, Naomi Davenport scored a game-high 21, while Katrina Pardee and Kristina King both finished in double figures.

After falling to Oklahoma State twice in the regular season, the mountaineers dominated the Cowgirls in the quarterfinals because they brought energy.

Next up for the mountaineers, a date with Texas in the semifinals. That game tips off Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
