WVU Men's Soccer Player Named Defensive Player of the Week

West Virginia men's soccer junior Eric Schoenle has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week.        

The Yardley, Pa., native helped the No. 17 Mountaineers preserve a 1-0 win against No. 11 Virginia in the team's season opener on Aug. 26, in Germantown, Md. Schoenle and the WVU defense held UVA to just three shots, none on-goal.        

Schoenle also showcased his offensive skills, as he netted the game-winning goal with 23 seconds remaining in the first half on a header off a Shadow Sebele corner kick.        

Earlier Monday, Schoenle was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week and the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.
