The West Virginia women's soccer team plays host to No. 8 Marquette on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m. on Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Fans are encouraged to wear pink as the Mountaineers make a check presentation for the money raised this past spring for the Betty Puskar Breast Cancer Fund at the Mary Randolph Cancer Center.

"We have a tough battle on our hands with a Top 10 team in Marquette coming to town," says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. "They are talented, well-coached and have a deep bench. We'll need a complete and focused effort from our ladies on Sunday. It should be a great match for fans to come out and watch, while also wearing pink to support breast cancer awareness."

The Mountaineers (5-3-0, 1-0-0), winners of three-straight matches, are coming off a tough 2-1 double overtime win at USF to open BIG EAST Conference play. WVU needed a late goal in regulation from senior Drea Barklage and penalty kick from senior Blake Miller to secure the victory.

Marquette (8-1-0, 1-0-0), which has won its last 16 conference matches, are coming off a 3-0 blanking of Pitt in its BIG EAST opener. Maegan Kelly, Lindsey Page and Kate Reigle all registered goals in the Golden Eagles fourth-straight win.

MU is led by 16th-year coach Markus Roeders. The Golden Eagles return 21 letter winners and seven starters from its 2010 BIG EAST American Division champion team that advance to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Marquette has out-scored its opponents, 25-5, and out-shot them, 169-49, on the season. All-BIG EAST forward Rachel Sloan and midfielder Kelly lead MU offensively, combining for 10 goals and seven assists.

Reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper and Defensive Players of the Year, Natalie Kulla and Kerry McBride, lead a strong defensive unit that has recorded six shutouts in nine matches.

The Mountaineers are 5-2 all-time against the Golden Eagles, including a 3-0 mark at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. WVU has dropped the last two matches in the series after winning the first five - four by shutout.
