The West Virginia University women's soccer team returns to the national rankings this week, checking in at No. 23 in Soccer America and No. 25 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.
WVU went 2-0-0 on the week, winning its conference opener at USF and defeating No. 8 Marquette at home. West Virginia was the only team in the BIG EAST American Division to go undefeated in week one.
West Virginia has won four straight matches and snapped Marquette's 16-game conference win streak. Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown also picked up her 225th career victory in the Mountaineers' win over the Bulls.
Next up for WVU are a pair of home BIG EAST matches – Sept. 23 against Seton Hall, at 7 p.m., and Sept. 25 with Rutgers, a 1 p.m. match that will be televised on CBS Sports Network. Calling the action is Eric Frede with Tammy Blackburn handling color commentary. Sunday's contest has been deemed a "Dollar Day" with all tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Cola products available for purchase for just one dollar.
