The
Mountaineers' first 6k race of the year is set to begin at 11 a.m. and
will take place at the PSU Blue and White Golf Course. WVU will face

No. 20 Nittany Lions, No. 26 Duke and Connecticut.
"The
meet will comprise of upwards of 40 universities, including UConn, Duke
and Penn State," says WVU coach Sean Cleary. "I look at all three of
those teams as looking to find themselves at the NCAA Championship next
month. We all will be looking at this meet as an opportunity to gain an
at-large selection into the finals."
Last
year, the Mountaineers came in sixth place at the event with 205
points, led by sophomore Sarah-Anne Brault, who finished in 11th place
in 21:05. Kaitlyn Gillespie followed closely behind in 17th place, while
Ahna Lewis came in 36th. Then-No.1 Villanova and No. 8 Syracuse led the field for the top team placements.
WVU
will race the majority of its roster on Friday to solidify starting
positions to compete at the BIG EAST Championship in two weeks.
"We
are going to a course that we know quite well," Cleary says. "Our No. 1
goal for the weekend is to run our best race of the season throughout
the entire group. Training has been progressing well and we are excited
to test ourselves. As the last race before the BIG EAST, we want it to
be a good one."
