The No. 20 West Virginia women's soccer team, winners of nine of its last 10 matches, hits the road for a pair of BIG EAST road contests this weekend. The
Mountaineers travel to Providence on Friday, Oct. 14, for a 3 p.m. match
with the Friars, before facing Connecticut on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 1
p.m.
"It's a big weekend for us in conference play," says coach
Nikki Izzo-Brown. "On any given day, especially when you're on
someone else's home field, anybody can beat anybody. We'll take it
one game at a time and try to get out of town with two winning
results."
WVU sports an 11-4-0 record following a pair of crucial BIG EAST home
matches last weekend, knocking off St. John's, 3-0, and defeating
Syracuse, 5-1. Senior Blake Miller and freshman Kate Schwindel each have
scored 11 points on four goals and three assists in BIG EAST matches
this season. The Mountaineer defense has recorded seven shutouts this
season, while defender Bry McCarthy boasts a team-best six assists.

(6), assists (3) and points (15). Anchoring the PC defense to seven
shutouts this season is all-BIG EAST defender Jenna Roncarati. Senior
goalkeeper Caitlin Walker has started all 16 matches, allowing 17 goals
and making 66 saves.
The Mountaineers are 4-11-3 all-time against Connecticut,
including a 1-3-1 mark on the road. The Mountaineers defeated the
Huskies twice last season, a 2-0 win in Morgantown and a 3-0 shutout in
the BIG EAST Semifinals.
Len Tsantiris is in his 31st season as head coach at Connecticut, who
returns seven starters from a year ago. The Huskies were picked to
finish third, with three first-place votes, in the American Division of
the BIG EAST preseason coaches' poll.
