Redshirt
senior Kate Harrison has been named West Virginia University's
Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance in last Friday's Penn
State National in University Park, Pa.
The Toronto, Ontario, native came in first place out of 268 runners
competing in the 6k race, leading the No. 19 Mountaineers to first place
over 28 other squads, including No. 20 Penn State, No. 26 Duke and
Connecticut. She finished the race in 20:50.
Her
placement helped the team to a season-low mark of 45 points and its
first team victory in a major invitational since the 2009 season. It was
her second first-place mark of the year as she accomplished the feat at
the Toledo Bubble Buster on Sept. 23.
Special Notes:
* Rifle-
The No. 3-ranked West Virginia rifle team opens its home season against
No. 7 Army on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the WVU Rifle Range. The match
begins at 8 a.m.
* Men's Soccer:
The Mountaineers face No. 1 Connecticut on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m.
WVU closes out the home season with a "Senior Day" match against
Providence on Friday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m., which will be nationally
televised on Fox Soccer Channel.
* Women's Soccer:
The Mountaineers close out the regular season at Pitt on Friday, Oct.
21, at 7 p.m. On the line is a division championship as WVU is tied with
Marquette for first place with 27 points, but holds the head-to-head
tiebreaker.
