Virginia women's soccer player Sara Keane was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper
of the Week, while teammate Frances Silva earned a spot on the weekly
Honor Roll, and was named to TopDrawerSoccer's Team of the Week,
officials announced Monday afternoon.
Keane
logged all 180 minutes in goal to lead the Mountaineers to a pair of
BIG EAST road wins, keeping WVU in first place of the American Division.
She made two saves and picked up a shutout, her seventh of the season,
in a rainy Friday afternoon against Providence. Yesterday, Keane made
four saves against Connecticut and was great off her line to secure
WVU's 13th win of the season.
Silva
continued her impressive play, scoring the game-winner at Providence
and netting a goal against UConn on its Senior Day. The goal against PC
helped WVU clinch a home match in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST
Championship. Yesterday, she attempted a game-best four shots, giving
WVU an early 1-0 lead on a goal against the Huskies. Silva has scored a
goal in three straight matches and has scored five goals in 10 BIG EAST
contests this season.
The Mountaineers close out the regular season against BIG EAST rival Pitt on Friday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m.
