The
17th-ranked West Virginia women's soccer team has earned a first round
bye in the 2011 BIG EAST Championship, holding the No. 1 seed position
in the American Division. The Mountaineers will face the winner of St.
John's/Seton Hall on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. at Dick Dlesk Soccer
Stadium.
The
conference tournament features a 10-team field with WVU and Louisville
earning No. 1 seeds. Marquette is the No. 2 seed in the American
Division, followed by Syracuse (No. 3), Providence (No. 4) and St.
John's (No. 5). Georgetown earned the National Division No. 2 seed,
followed by Notre Dame (No. 3), Seton Hall (No. 4) and Rutgers (No. 5).
West
Virginia finished the regular season with a 14-4-0 record, 10-1-0 mark
in BIG EAST play. The Mountaineers have won 12 of their last 13 matches.
The
Mountaineers have qualified for the BIG EAST tournament in 12 straight
years, only Rutgers has equaled the feat. WVU is the defending BIG EAST
champion, winning the 2010 title in a 1-0 victory over USF.
