Zublasing Named WVU Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN -

After shooting an NCAA-best 600 air rifle score, West Virginia junior Petra Zublasing has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week.

The Appiano, Italy, native was spectacular in the No. 2-ranked Mountaineers' 4693-4637 victory over No. 6 Army at the WVU Rifle Range on Oct. 22 as she swept the individual awards. In addition to her air rifle victory, Zublasing also won smallbore (586) and finished first overall (1186).

Zublasing is believed to be the first female collegiate shooter to earn the record 600 air rifle score; the mark also is a WVU best. Though females only shoot 40 shots in air rifle at international matches, her score is comparable to a world record.

A National Rifle Association (NRA) first team air rifle All-American, Zublasing has won all but one individual competition this season.
