Floridian Becomes Second Running Back in 2012 Class

Updated:
MORGANTOWN -

The Mountaineer coaching staff received some good news on Tuesday when running back Torry Clayton (Homestead, FL / South Dade) gave a verbal commitment to lead recruiter Robert Gillespie and joined the 2012 recruiting class.

Clayton, a 5'10" 190-pound athlete who rushed for 15 touchdowns his senior season en route to second-team all-state 8A honors, becomes the second running back in this class joining Roshard Burney, who also hails from the Sunshine State.

Throughout the recruiting process, Clayton gathered scholarship offers from the likes of Ball State, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Florida International, Illinois, Memphis, UAB and UCF.  Rivals.com rates Clayton as the nation's 30th running back and gives him a three-star mark.

The talented back is expected to be fully qualified and will report to Morgantown in June.

Note: With his commitment, the 2012 class now sits at 26 recruits.  National Signing Day is in exactly two weeks on Wednesday, February 1st.  Since the five early enrollees count back towards last year's numbers, there look to be a handful of spots remaining in this year's class.
