The West Virginia University gymnastics team fell four spots to No. 24 in this week's GymInfo
Poll.
Today's ranking is based on the Mountaineers' (5-2, 3-0
EAGL) team average, which dropped 0.079 points to 194.365 following a
194.65-195.05 loss at then-No. 22 Michigan on Feb. 3, in Ann Arbor,
Mich.
WVU earned a season-high No. 20 ranking on Jan. 30 and has not
been ranked outside of the Top 25 since the year's first rankings were
released on Jan. 16.
After three weeks in the nation's Top 10, the Mountaineers
dropped three spots to No. 11 (48.95) on floor. The squad also dropped
to No. 20 (48.845) on vault and No. 23 (48.415) on beam.
Sophomore Hope Sloanhoffer is again nationally ranked on two
events. The Cornwall, N.Y., native continues to rank No. 26 (39.105) in
the all-around and is ranked No. 46 (9.845) on vault.
Junior Alaska Richardson also is nationally ranked and checks in
at No. 40 (9.825) on floor.
The Mountaineers fell one spot in the Southeast Region and are
ranked No. 4. The squad also fell behind nationally ranked No. 4 Florida
and No. 6 Georgia on floor and ranks No. 3, its first time outside of
the Top 2 this season. WVU continues to rank No. 3 on vault and also
ranks No. 4 on beam and No. 6 (48.155) on bars.
Sloanhoffer, ranked No. 6 in the all-around, is regionally
ranked on all four events. The reigning East Atlantic Gymnastics League
(EAGL) Gymnast of the Week ranks No. 4 on vault, No. 12 (9.795) on
floor, No. 15 (9.77) on beam and No. 22 (9.695) on bars.
Five Mountaineers are ranked on floor, with Richardson leading
the way at No. 4. Junior Kaylyn Millick is ranked No. 9 (9.808), and
sophomore Makenzie Bristol and junior Chelsea Goldschrafe rank behind
Sloanhoffer at No. 17 (9.78) and No. 22 (9.75), respectively.
Millick paces the Mountaineer beam squad with a No. 14 (9.775)
ranking. Following Sloanhoffer at No. 15 are freshman Beth Deal at No.
19 (9.717) and sophomore Amanda Carpenter at No. 21 (9.705).
Three Mountaineers also rank on vault, with freshman Dayah Haley
at No. 21 (9.735), Maloney at No. 23 (9.73) and Goldschrafe at No. 24
(9.725). Maloney and Goldschrafe also rank in the all-around at No. 12
(38.645) and No. 16 (38.375), respectively.
Additionally, senior Nicole Roach owns the team's top bars
ranking and checks in at No. 19 (9.715).
After a week at the top, the Mountaineers dropped to No. 2 in
the EAGL; NC State, ranked No. 21 nationally, is No. 1 with a 194.445
season average. WVU continues to rank No. 1 on vault and floor and is
No. 2 on beam and No. 5 on bars.
Sloanhoffer, the league's No. 1 all-around gymnast, also ranks
No. 3 on vault and beam and No. 7 on floor.
Millick and Richardson rank No. 2 on beam and floor,
respectively; Millick also ranks No. 6 on floor.
Deal and Carpenter rank No. 8 and No. 10 on beam, respectively,
while Maloney checks in at No. 8 in the all-around and Roach is ranked
No. 9 on bars.
The Mountaineers return to the WVU Coliseum this weekend and
play host to No. 11 Ohio State, No. 13 Auburn and Ball State on Sunday,
Feb. 12, at 2 p.m., in their annual "Pink Meet." Fans are encouraged
to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
Sunday's meet also is a "Dollar Day," with all tickets,
hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Colas available for $1 each. Additionally, as
part of WVU's Random Acts of Kindness Week, fans are encouraged to
bring a non-perishable food item with them Sunday for a donation run by
the WVU Student Government Association.
