Fresh off three consecutive BIG EAST wins, including a 66-50 upset over No. 14/12 Louisville in its last outing, the West Virginia women's basketball team is receiving votes in both major polls today.
The Mountaineers (17-6, 7-3) received votes in the Associated Press poll for the first time this week and are also earning votes in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll.
WVU's defense shines on the national scene as the Mountaineers limit opponents to the third-lowest field goal percentage (31.0%), the fourth-lowest scoring average of 49.2 points per game and the 15th lowest 3-point field goal percentage of 25.5 percent.
With a 17-6 overall record and 7-3 record in the BIG EAST, West Virginia has defeated all opponents by an average of 17.3 points per game, the 11th-best average nationally. The Mountaineers have held 17 opponents to under 60 points and have been successful in out-rebounding 18 opponents this season.
