DIving: Three Score in BIG EAST Champs

Three members of the WVU diving squad scored points in the final day of the diving portion of the BIG EAST Championships on Saturday evening at Trees Pools in Pittsburgh, Pa.

 

            Sophomore Richard Pokorny finished in third place with 283.35 points on the 1-meter board to lead the men. After finishing the preliminary round in the No. 4 position, Pokorny had three of his six dives in the finals go for 50 or more points.

 

            Senior Matt O'Neill earned team points with 272.55 points for a 10th-place finish. O'Neill had two dives over 50 points in the consolation finals.

 

            Going into the finals as the No. 8 seed, freshman Haily VandePoel improved in the finals with 254.15 points for a sixth-place finish on the 3-meter board. VandePoel scored 40 or more points on four of her six dives in the finals.

 

            The swimming team will complete its portion of the championships from Feb. 15-18, also in Pittsburgh.
