Holgorsen Announces WVU Football Staff Assignments

West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen announced his staff's assignments Monday as part of the football media luncheon.

On the defensive side of the ball, Joe DeForest and Keith Patterson will serve as co-coordinators in their first year with the program.

DeForest will also coach safeties for the Mountaineers, while Keith Patterson will take over for linebackers.

Steve Dunlap, the lone returning member of last season's defensive staff, is no longer coaching safeties but will be the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator.

Erik Slaughter is defensive line coach.

Daron Roberts isn't new to the staff, but he is new to the defensive side of the ball. Last season's wide receivers coach will not coach cornerbacks, the position he tutored with the NFL's Detroit Lions prior to joining Holgorsen's staff.

Due to Roberts' switch, inside receivers coach Shannon Dawson will now take over as coach for all receivers. Dawson is also going to serve as the offensive coordinator.

Holgorsen also announced that Ryan Dorchester, a former student manager and graduate assistant at WVU, will take over duties as the team's recruiting coordinator after working closely with current director of football operations Alex Hammond last season.
