MORGANTOWN -
For some, this day is the equivalent of a national holiday.
It is Selection Sunday. This is the day the 68 teams that will compete for the
National Championship are announced. Brackets are filled out and the great
March Madness office pools begin.
The West Virginia University men's basketball team is
considered to be on the bubble by some, but solidly in by other so called
"bracketology experts."
In all likelihood, WVU will be announced as a 10, 11 or 12
seed depending on what factors the NCAA Tournament selection committee
considered to be most important. WVU has a decent RPI, a solid strength of
schedule and some quality wins. It does not have a great finish to the season,
which might be a key ingredient.
The WVU men's basketball team will be gathered together in a
room at the Waterfront Place Hotel in Morgantown watching the NCAA Tournament
Selection Show just like you at home. The brackets will begin getting unveiled
shortly after six o'clock.
We will be at the Waterfront Place Hotel and hear from the
players and Head Coach Bob Huggins shortly after the announcement is made. Look
for those interviews to appear on wvillustrated.com once they have been
completed.
The WVU football team is also grabbing some of the headlines
this Sunday. The Mountaineers are taking the field for the first time since
they blew out Clemson 70-33 in the Orange Bowl more than two months ago.
The Mountaineers will hold 15 practices over a six-week
period. Spring drills will conclude with the annual Gold-Blue game on April 21
with pre-game festivities set to begin at 5:30 pm.
Five players in the 2012 signing class enrolled early, which
allows them to participate in spring drills. Those five players are Quarterback
Ford Childress, Defensive Tackle Imarjaye Albury, Safety Karl Joseph, Wide
Receiver Jordan Thompson and Safety Sean Walters.
Head Coach Dana Holgorsen will meet with the media once the
first day of practice is complete. He is expected to address the media at 7
p.m. We will post that full interview on wvillustrated.com once it is complete.
