West Virginia University volleyball coach Jill Kramer announces the signing of two additional student-athletes to the 2012 class.
Hannah Sackett (Somers, Mont./Flathead) and Caleah Wells (Red Oak, Texas/Red Oak) have signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Mountaineers in the fall of 2012.
"We are very excited to add Hannah and Caleah to our 2012 class as they compliment the rest of the 2012 class very well with their athleticism, personality and skill set," coach Jill Kramer says. "Both Caleah and Hannah work very hard on the court. We refer to them as 'blue collar' players, as they both work very hard in their respective positions. Hannah and Caleah are both expected to contribute on the court immediately. We can't wait to get them in the gym with us."
A 6-foot outside hitter, Sackett comes to Morgantown after being a four-year starter and two-year captain at Flathead High. In her time at Flathead, Sackett set 16 different school records, was named academic all-state all four years and was a finalist for 2010 Montana Gatorade Player of the Year. Sackett was also named a Montana Class AA all-state first team selection in the last two years and a Western AA all-conference first team selection the last three years.
"Hannah is our most recent addition to the WVU volleyball family," Kramer says. "We did not see her compete until this year in early March. She is a tremendous competitor and has a bright future ahead of her as an outside hitter for our squad."
Wells is the third Mountaineer in the 2012 class to be named to the Prepvolleyball.com 2012 Senior Aces 150 List. The 6-foot-1 middle blocker was named District 15-4A Newcomer of the Year in 2010 and Hitter of the Year in 2011. Wells helped lead Red Oak to a regional semifinal in 2011 while also being named to the 4A Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State Team and Lonestarvolleyball.com all-Texas team honorable mention.
"Caleah is a great athlete who will be able to go toe to toe with the middle blockers in the Big 12," Kramer says. "She didn't start playing volleyball until high school, so is relatively young in the sport. I have watched her develop her play throughout high school and she continues to improve each year, as she is trained by some great coaches at TAV and Red Oak High School."
Sackett and Wells join Arielle Allen (Lewistown, Mont./Western Wyoming Community College), Nikki Attea (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North), Monique Kemp (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Dade Christian), Kendall LaVine ((Boulder, Colo./Fairview), Anna Panagiotakopoulos (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Preparatory) and Brittany Sample (Lewisville, Texas/Hebron) in the 2012 incoming class.
