The highlight of the 30 minutes we saw tonight is posted in the video above. Watch it, then read the rest. The good stuff comes around the one-minute mark. Oh, and video of head coach Dana Holgorsen throwing fades is at the bottom of this page. Check that out too. And now – notes!
- The quarterback group only consisted of two players for the duration of the media's time at the practice. Geno Smith was absent, and everyone seemed to be asking where he was, but no one seemed to know the answer. Conversations overheard involved anything from receiving a text message to being at class or nursing a shoulder injury in the training room.
Head athletic trainer Dave Kerns said his absence was not injury related. Apparently after the media left, Smith came back out for practice. In his place, Dana Holgorsen again showed off his arm during passing drills.
- Fullback Ryan Clarke wore a red jersey as he did a variety of workouts near the Milan Puskar Center, officially out with a lower extremity injury. Running back Andrew Buie was in a green jersey, but was participating in many of the drills.
- The Oklahoma drill provided some real entertainment and competition, especially between receiver Dante Campbell and safety Karl Joseph. The two were pinned up against each other about midway through the drill and on the initial meeting, Campbell took Joseph to the ground.
Tavon Austin and other receivers swarmed Campbell too congratulate him and other defenders came to Joseph's side. There was no choice but to pin the two up against each other again and that's when it got really fun.
Joseph shed Campbell and took out Jordan Thompson (the ball carrier and Joseph's roommate) by the legs, taking him down and inciting a riot. Again, both sides came out to greet each other as a few fists flew and Dana Holgorsen got himself right in the middle of the action with the biggest smile across his face.
You can watch that entire exchange in the video above.
