MORGANTOWN -
Several published reports indicate West Virginia University
men's basketball assistant coach Jerrod Calhoun is leaving WVU to become the
Head Coach at Fairmont State University.
Messages for Calhoun have not been returned.
Calhoun was initially named to Bob Huggins' staff as the
Director of Basketball Operations in 2008. He moved into an assistant coaching
position last season.
Calhoun's departure would create an opening on Huggins
staff. Former WVU assistant and current Director of Basketball Operations Billy
Hahn has said he wants to get back to being an assistant coach.
Another possibility to fill the vacancy is former Duquesne
Head Coach Ron Everhart. Everhart was fired last month. He went 99-89 in six
years at Duquesne.
Huggins and Everhart have a great relationship, which would
make this move more likely for both parties.
Huggins is speaking at a Nike Clinic this weekend in
Pittsburgh. Neither WVU nor Fairmont State have issued any releases related to
the news regarding their respective coaching staffs.
