Mountaineers 22nd in Latest Directors’ Cup Standings


West Virginia University
currently stands in 22nd place in the 2011-12 Learfield Sports
Directors' Cup final winter standings.

Down four spots since the midseason standings, WVU has compiled 460.5
points to date. WVU picked up 46.5 points in the latest poll via the
gymnastics team's 25th place overall finish.

All 15 winter championships have been completed.

       Two BIG EAST schools rank ahead of WVU, with Notre Dame at No.
14 with 503.5 points and Louisville at No. 19 with 464.0 points. Five
teams from the conference rank within the top 50, with Connecticut
checking in at No. 42 with 345.0 points and Georgetown slotted at No. 49
with 297.75 points.

Of note, WVU ranks behind three current Big 12 members. Texas ranks No.
9 (583.0), while Texas A&M is 12th (526.0) and Oklahoma (598.25) is No.

       Stanford continues to lead all schools with 1,029.75 points,
followed by Ohio State (807.75), Penn State (793.0), Florida (702.0) and
Michigan (666.0).

       WVU has finished in the top 50 in the Directors' Cup standings
for four straight years, including last season's 40th-place finish.
WVU finished 37th in 2010, a school-best 30th in 2009 and 50th in 2008.

       The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint
effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of
Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each
institution's finish in up to 14 sports – seven women's and seven
