Holgorsen and the Mountaineer to Star in ESPN Commercial

MORGANTOWN -

West Virginia University football will have a part in a commercial for ESPN's College GameDay promotions this fall.

Head coach Dana Holgorsen and WVU Mountaineer mascot Jonathan Kimble will be involved in a video shoot on Tuesday of next week along with representatives from other universities around the country.

Kimble says he just found out about the opportunity shortly after making an appearance in Parkersburg for a stop on the WVU Coaches Caravan and is thrilled for the opportunity.

"I'm so pumped for it," Kimble said Thursday. "I've loved seeing the mascot commercials ESPN produces and everybody watches College GameDay Live during the football season, so it should be a great experience."

Kimble will fly from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles on Monday and spend much of Tuesday with the crew doing his part for the spot along with Holgorsen.

In the time leading up to Kimble becoming the latest in a long line of Mountaineers, he spoke a lot about what it meant for him to hold that title at WVU. Now he is excited to greet some of the fraternity of mascots that he will join in L.A.

"It's kind of an elite group of people," says Kimble. "I'm sure we're going to have a lot of fun and talk about how we can relate to different atmospheres, but it's interesting to say that I'm a part of this huge national opportunity for WVU."

Kimble will be West Virginia's first mascot as it begins Big 12 play this fall and the chance to be one of the faces of the program is something he relishes as he prepares to run out onto the field for the first home game in September.

The exposure WVU has gotten in the months since its Orange Bowl blowout victory is something Kimble believes has really helped the program as it gains momentum entering a new conference.

"It's great. It's one of the positive things we can get here at West Virginia," he says. "Going into the Big 12 is giving us a lot of positive media exposure and being a chance to be a part of this on ESPN is going to get a lot of eyes on us. Come football season, everybody's going to get a chance to see that West Virginia is one of the best teams in the country and I'm excited to be a part of it."

This will be Kimble's second time in Los Angeles and in addition to the fun he hopes to have putting together the commercial, he's also anxious for the chance to spend time with Holgorsen on a more personal level.

After all, up until this point, Kimble has just been a fan like thousands of others who cannot wait to get past the summer months and watch the Mountaineers take the field.

"I'm watching all the highlight videos that come out on YouTube, I'm always talking with fans, I'm working on pushups because I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of pushups this fall and it's going to be a great season," says Kimble.

Kimble says he is not sure exactly what the commercial will consist of, but he intends to tweet photos and anecdotes from his trip on a new official Mountaineer Twitter account that is in the works, currently with the name @WVUMascot.

While in L.A., he's hopeful to run into some of the more well known mascots and share stories based on their experiences.

Although, knowing those other mascots, it may be more of a one-sided conversation.
