Staff additions continue for the West Virginia baseball team
as head coach Randy Mazey announced Thursday that Steven Trout would join him
as an assistant coach.
"Steven played for me at TCU when I
first arrived there, and he was one of the hardest working players I have ever
coached," Mazey said in a release from the university. "He had a tremendous
work ethic and got the most out of his abilities. He has a really good feel for
the game, and the work ethic and energy he showed as a student-athlete have
transferred to his coaching. I believe Steven is one of the best young coaches
in the game, and I am really excited to have him join my staff."
Trout's most recent coaching stop was
at Texarkana College, where he led the Bulldogs as head coach since 2011. His
duties with Texarkana included coaching the infielders and hitters in addition
to serving as the third base coach.
Texarkana was also a home to Trout in
his playing days before he finished his baseball career at TCU, where Mazey
served as associate head coach before joining WVU.
Trout's first coaching position was at
Texas State University as a volunteer assistant before he took the job with the
Bulldogs.
"I'm very excited to join the WVU
baseball staff," Trout said. "Coach Mazey is one of the best baseball guys I
know. I know I will learn a lot working with him and Derek Matlock. I think
Mountaineer baseball is going to make a lot of strides in the Big 12
Conference, and I'm excited to get started."
Trout joins Derek Matlock as the first two assistants hired
by Mazey since being named WVU head coach on June 6th.
