Former West Virginia University basketball star Kevin Jones did not see the NBA draft go the way he expected. Jones thought for sure his name would be one of the 60 called Thursday night at the draft.
It was not and as soon as the draft ended, Jones phone began ringing off the hook from numerous NBA teams. In the end, Jones decided to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
It is a three-year deal with a partial guarantee. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
The Cavaliers are offering Jones their final roster spot, which should all but guarantee him a spot with the team heading into the season.
Cleveland had a familiar face checking Jones out throughout his senior season at West Virginia. Former WVU Guard Mike Gansey is a scout for the Cavaliers and was high on what Jones could bring to Cleveland.
Jones is expected to arrive in Cleveland on July 5 and will play in the NBA Summer League with the Cavaliers.
