MORGANTOWN -

After one season with the Mountaineers, West Virginia announced Thursday that Pat Forsythe is transferring from the program.

Forsythe, a 6-foot-11 center from Brunswick, Ohio is reportedly transferring to Akron to be closer to home.

In his freshman season at WVU, Forsythe appeared in just seven games, averaging 2.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in reserve duty. His year was cut short when he suffered a stress fracture in his right ankle, leading him to miss the final 24 games of the season.

Forsythe was granted a medical hardship waiver to retain another season of eligibility for the time he missed, which means he will have four years to play at Akron.

The loss is a hit to WVU's depth in the post as Forsythe was considered the second big man behind Deniz Kilicli to start last season before his injury kept him from the lineup.

Fellow freshman Tommie McCune also transferred from WVU after his first year with the team, landing at Oakland University.
