West Virginia is in silver Monday after former Mountaineer shooter Nicco Campriani won the second prize in the London Olympics.
Campriani turned in a score of 701.5 in the men's 10m air rifle final, just 0.6 behind gold medal winner Alin George Moldoveanu of Romania.
Campriani, an Italy native, was shooting in his first of three events in these Olympics, with the second scheduled for Friday, Aug. 3. That event will be the men's 50m rifle prone, followed by the 50m rifle 3 position on Aug. 6.
Campriani graduated from WVU following the 2010-11 season after rewriting the record books for a proud rifle program under head coach Jon Hammond, who is also competing at the 2012 Olympics.
Hammond is shooting for Team Great Britain and will compete against Campriani in his next two events.
Current WVU senior Petra Zublasing, also shooting for Italy, finished 12th in her 10m air rifle final and will return for the qualifying round of the 50m rifle 3 position.
