Zublasing Finishes 12th in Women’s 3 Positions at 2012 London Summer Olympics

Posted: Updated:

West Virginia University
senior Petra Zublasing concluded her competition time at the 2012 London
Summer Olympics with a 12th-place finish in the women's 50m rifle 3
positions, today, inside the Royal Artillery Barracks.

Zublasing, a native of Appiano, Italy, shot 581 (192 prone, 194
standing, 195 kneeling), two shots short of qualifying for the event
final. Included in her score were 29 total inner 10s.

Jamie Lynn Gray (USA) shot an Olympic record en route to winning
the Gold medal with a final score of 691.9. She shot a qualifying score
of 592, also an Olympic record, and 99.9 in the final.

Ivana Maksimovic (Serbia) won Silver with a score of 687.5 (590,
97.5), and Adela Sykorova (Czech Republic) earned Bronze with a final
total of 683.0 (584, 99.0).

Of note, the rifle 3 positions qualification round was shot in
an outdoor range, and athletes had to battle steady wind and rain
today.

Today's result is the second 12th-place finish of the Games
for Zublasing, as she also placed 12th in air rifle on July 28. The
three-time National Rifle Association First Team All-American will
return to Morgantown at the conclusion of the Games and prepare for her
final season with the Mountaineers.

The last rifle shooting event of the Games, the men's 50m
rifle 3 positions, is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 6. Nicco Campriani
(Italy), ranked No. 1 in the world, will shoot for his third final
appearance and second medal of the Games; he won Silver in the men's
10m air rifle on July 30. Seventh-year Mountaineer coach Jon Hammond
(Great Britain) also is scheduled to shoot. A link to the live event
final, scheduled for 8:40 a.m. ET, can be found at www.WVUsports.com.
