A plaque honoring former West Virginia University Head Coach Bill Stewart was unveiled in a ceremony at Milan Puskar Stadium Friday afternoon.
The ceremony was attended by the entire current WVU coaching staff as well as current players recruited by Stewart. Some of those players included Josh Jenkins, Ryan Nehlen, Tyler Bitancurt, Jeff Braun and Terence Garvin.
WVU Athletic Director Oliver Luck and WVU First Lady Beth Clements made a few remarks as part of the dedication ceremony. Together they unveiled the plaque. It is in the main concourse of the stadium hanging on the wall where the Press Box elevator is located.
"I envision in my mind's eye, grandpa's telling their grandkids about the Oklahoma win in the Fiesta Bowl and what that meant not just to the football team, not just the University, but to the state as well," Luck said during the dedication.
Stewart's wife Karen and his son Blaine did not attend the dedication.
Bill Stewart served as an assistant coach at WVU from 2000-2007 and as Head Coach from 2008-2010. He passed away on following a major heart attack on May 12.
