No. 14 Is A Big Commitment for WVU

Updated:
CHARLESTON -

Throughout the last week, rumors have swirled that prep four-star defensive lineman De'Asian Richardson (Orange Park, Fla. / Orange Park) was seriously contemplating a college commitment in the near future.

On Monday morning, those rumors finally materialized as Richardson chose WVU over Oklahoma.  He also reported scholarship offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan State, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee and UCLA, among others.

On February 25th, he committed to the Seminoles while on a campus visit but shortly backed off that commitment hours later.

Richardson is a 6'3" 285-pound strongside defensive end, according to Rivals.com, and is rated 18th in the nation at his position.  The website also lists Richardson as the 45th overall prospect out of the Sunshine State.

Since Rivals began ranking players in 2002, he is the highest ranked prep defensive lineman to ever commit to WVU.  Tevita Finau (never played a snap) and Bruce Irvin, both four-star prospects, also committed and signed with WVU but they both came from junior college.

Richardson has yet to visit Morgantown.  He is the 14th recruit in the 2013 class and the first defensive line commitment.
