MORGANTOWN -
West Virginia's Tavon Austin has added another honor to a preseason full of recognition for the senior Mountaineer receiver.
On Wednesday, Austin was named to ESPN's All-America team as one of two wide receivers along with USC's Robert Woods.
Austin's final season in the gold and blue will kick off this Saturday when the Mountaineers take on the Marshall Thundering Herd in the Friends of Coal Bowl. A year ago, he broke up the scoring against Marshall with a kickoff return touchdown that brought on thunderous applause and lightning -- actual lightning.
Ever since tallying four touchdowns in the Orange Bowl for WVU, Austin has been getting increased hype for what he can do on the field. His name continues to emerge on preseason watch lists and other forms of notoriety that ultimately mean nothing aside from the attention they bring.
On Tuesday, Austin was asked about that hype and the idea that some have tabbed him as an early Heisman Trophy frontrunner.
"My friends and family will call me and ask me about it. They will let me know what they heard on SportsCenter or things like that," Austin said. "I don't really pay attention to it though. I am just thankful that my name is being mentioned with that type of award. I am going to keep marching forward with the right attitude, and hopefully, my name is called at the end of the year."
