Texas Tech Head Coach Tommy Tuberville likes what he sees
out of West Virginia University quarterback Geno Smith. Unfortunately for Tuberville,
he and the Red Raiders will have to deal with Smith and the Mountaineers this
weekend.
"You got to have a quarterback and they have one,"
Tuberville said. "They have a real good one. They trust him and he does a real
good job of spreading the ball around. He doesn't throw any interceptions."
Tuberville said he has spent the past 48 hours watching West
Virginia film and is very impressed by Smith's efficiency.
"This is about as good as it gets," Tuberville smirked. "He
is pretty close to what Weeden was in different ways. He has great touch on the
ball. He has a lot of speed at receiver. He has that knack of sitting in the
pocket. He will take a sack and understands that he does not want to turn it
over and that there is another play."
Smith has 24 touchdown passes and zero interceptions through
five games. Tuberville ran into Smith this summer at the Manning Camp. Tuberville
was there with his son as well as Texas Tech quarterback Seth Doege.
"I have been very impressed and I have seen a lot of good
quarterbacks in my tenure," Tuberville stated. "I saw him at the Manning Camp.
He was one of the top quarterbacks at that camp."
Tuberville will see him again Saturday afternoon when West
Virginia rolls into Lubbock, Texas. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
