The West Virginia University baseball team will play its best-of-three Blue-Gold World Series starting on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Hawley Field. Pregame activities will begin at 2:30 p.m.
The Mountaineers will play games two and three on Thursday, Oct. 25, and Friday, Oct. 26, with pregame beginning at 2:30 p.m. each day.
All three games are free and open to the public.
Coach Randy Mazey is in his first season at the helm of West Virginia and most recently led the Mountaineers to an 18-4 victory over Potomac State last Sunday in exhibition action. Senior Brady Wilson and sophomore Billy Fleming had three hits apiece in the victory.
West Virginia returns 20 letterwinners and brings in 18 newcomers for the 2013 season. Sophomore Bobby Boyd led WVU with a .321 batting average, including seven doubles, 20 RBIs and 23 stolen bases in 2012. Junior Ryan McBroom led WVU with 41 RBIs to go along with a .302 batting average, 15 doubles and six home runs, while junior Matt Frazer led the team with 23 doubles and six home runs.
