Former Mountaineers Return to WVU for Fireside Chat

West Virginia sports fans have an opportunity to visit with some of the most recognizable faces in Mountaineer history today when the Mountaineers themselves speak at a special event.

Fireside Chats with Former Mountaineers will take place Friday night in the Vandalia Lounge of the Mountainlair. These aren't former athletes or coaches, but rather the people who have worn the buckskins over the years as the WVU Mountaineer.

These West Virginia representatives, including current Mountaineer Jonathan Kimble, will discuss the history and tradition of this university symbol through the years as well as stories from their own time toting the rifle in Morgantown and across the state.

The event will kick off the annual Mountaineer Week, which runs through Nov. 4.

Among those in attendance will be Rebecca Durst, Brady Campbell, Brandon Flower and Andy Cogar, each with experiences that only each other could understand.

"I always look forward to celebrating Mountaineer pride and spirit during the festivities of Mountaineer Week," Durst, who served in the 2009-10 season. "I am especially excited to participate in new events like Fireside Chats that will hopefully become tradition for Mountaineer Week."

WVU fans who come to the event will be charged with the task of asking the questions to each of the Mountaineers to get an idea of what it is like to be one of the faces of the university. As part of Mountaineer Week Challenge, participating students will get points for attending this and other events through the week.

"I think it will be an historic night for Mountaineer mascots as we share stories and great experiences as the symbol of WVU," says Kimble. "I'm also looking forward to seeing how much things have changed over the years [for the Mountaineer]."

The event will begin at 7 p.m. with the question and answer portion running for approximately an hour before fans will be allowed to stay for a photo and autograph session with the Mountaineers.

Fireside Chats with Former Mountaineers will be moderated by the author of this post and featured on The Dana Holgorsen Show.
