MORGANTOWN -
The Associated Press women's basketball poll was released today with West Virginia listed as preseason No. 17.
The
preseason ranking is the second highest preseason AP ranking for the
Mountaineers and only the third preseason AP ranking in the history of
the program. The 2011 team earned the highest preseason ranking at No.
11, while the 2008 team earned a preseason No. 18 ranking.
Fellow
Big12 opponent and defending national champions Baylor was tabbed the
favorite. Other league schools in the top 25 this week include Oklahoma
at No. 12 and Oklahoma State at No. 23. Kansas, Texas and Iowa State
each received votes, and Virginia, a non-conference opponent on this
season's Mountaineer schedule also earned votes.
The
Mountaineers will play host to Concord at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30 in
exhibition action before opening the regular season, Friday, Nov. 9
against UNC Wilmington in the WVU Coliseum.
