The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources issued a citation Monday to West Virginia University Mountaineer mascot Jonathon Kimble for hunting without wearing blaze orange during a firearms deer season, according to Hoy Murphy, DNR spokesman.
Kimble was ordered to stop using a university-issued musket after a video of him hunting a black bear in Pendleton County, was posted online.
When bear season is concurrent with a deer firearms season on land where both seasons are open, hunters are required to wear blaze orange. The citation carries a penalty of $5 to $50 plus court costs, if convicted, according to the DNR.
