WVU Women's Basketball Falls to Duquesne

Mike Carey and his Mountaineers could not buy a bucket and consistently gave Duquesne the ball to make shots of their own in a 62-54 final. West Virginia turned the ball over 23 times and connected on just 29 percent of its shots in the loss.

This marks the first time since 1994 in which both the men's and women's basketball teams have lost to Duquesne in the same season. It's also the second-straight loss to the Dukes for Carey's crew.

Coach Carey said after the game that Madison, W.Va. native Makenzie White had decided to transfer for a Division II school, which he did not name, and would no longer be part of the Mountaineers team.

"She's a great young lady," Carey said of the freshman guard. "We wish her the best of luck."
