Joe Madsen Ineligible for Pinstripe Bowl

West Virginia center Joe Madsen is academically ineligible and has not made the trip to New York City with the Mountaineers, a team source confirmed Wednesday.

Madsen, a senior, previously missed the 2010 Champs Sports Bowl in his sophomore season due to being deemed academically ineligible. The Dec. 29 New Era Pinstripe Bowl would have been the Chardon, Ohio native's final game in a Mountaineer uniform.

The 6-foot-4, 305-pound center has started every game he's played at WVU, including all 12 regular season match-ups as a senior. Fellow senior John Bassler is listed as the primary back-up at the center position, but West Virginia could also elect to move starting right guard Jeff Braun inside.

The Mountaineers will take the practice field at Fordham University on Wednesday afternoon to continue preparation for the meeting with Syracuse at Yankee Stadium, set for a 3:15 p.m. kickoff from Yankee Stadium.
