Blue Chip Recruit Shelton Gibson Is A Mountaineer

Updated:
CHARLESTON -

The WVU coaching staff scored a huge victory on the recruiting trail today when Rivals100 four-star prospect Shelton Gibson (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) committed to the Mountaineers.

The news was first reported on twitter by Marc Givler, who is the recruiting analyst for BuckeyeGrove.com, which is part of the Rivals.com Network.

WVSports.com Senior Writer Keenan Cummings had this to say about Gibson's commitment:

"Gibson is an electric playmaker that will have the opportunity to step in and see the field early at wide receiver.  A U.S. Army All American, Gibson has a load of talent and is someone that can stretch the field and add back some of the explosiveness that WVU will lose with Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey turning pro."

Gibson is a 6'1" 175-pound wideout who reportedly runs a 4.42 forty-yard dash and chose the Mountaineers over offers from Ohio State, Kentucky, Tennessee, Auburn, Louisville, Mississippi State, Nebraska and Pittsburgh, among others.

Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Shannon Dawson was his lead recruiter.

Gibson marks the 23rd commitment in the 2013 recruiting class.  According to his coach, Gibson should not have any trouble academically qualifying.

National Signing Day is on February 6th, 2013.
