MORGANTOWN -
West Virginia University and IMG College have yet to
finalize a deal granting third-tier multimedia rights to IMG. However, the two
sides continue to work towards getting an agreement.
"As part of an ongoing Request for Proposal (RFP)
process, WVU and IMG are in negotiations for a potential multimedia rights
agreement," IMG Vice President of Strategic Communications Andrew Giangola said
in a statement to WVi. "Related to this, IMG is exploring the market for a
General Manager position to ensure a smooth transition if an agreement is
ultimately reached. This routine activity is part of the ongoing process,
which is not yet completed."
At this point, WVU has not issued any comment regarding
these negotiations.
WVU filed a Request For Proposals (RFP) last summer. The
process of reviewing bids was expected to end in early December.
Among the media assets listed in the RFP are rights to
coaching endorsements (subject to employment agreements); premise signage in
the Coliseum and Puskar Stadium; event marketing rights, including game day
sponsorships and promotions; video (TV) content rights not signed over to the
Big 12, as well as coaches' shows; audio (radio) rights, including pre- and
post-game shows; print rights, including game day publications; and digital
rights not signed over to the Big 12, like website advertising and streaming
rights.
IMG College represents multimedia rights at more than 70 colleges and universities. That
group includes fellow Big 12 members Texas, Baylor, Kansas and TCU.
IMG College joined Nelligan Sports, CBS Collegiate Sports
Properties, Fox Sports Net, Front Row Marketing, Legends Sales and Marketing,
XOS Digital and West Virginia Radio Corporation in the final bidding process.
This entity, wvillustrated.com, is owned by West Virginia
Media, which currently produces and broadcasts both The Bob Huggins Show and
The Dana Holgorsen Show statewide around West Virginia. West Virginia Media
also broadcasts the Gold-Blue spring football game and the Capital Classic.
