CHARLESTON -
West Virginia's football staff made a big splash today when junior college teammates Mario Alford and Brandon Golson (Milledgeville, Ga. / Georgia Military College) flipped their commitments from Arizona to WVU and signed with the Mountaineers.
The pair visited the Morgantown campus the weekend of January 25th and they were recruited by new WVU safeties coach Tony Gibson, who came from Arizona.
Alford brings a much-needed dose of speed to the WVU offense and should compete immediately for one of the starting slot receiver positions.
As a junior in high school (Greenville HS), he won the Georgia state championship in the 100 meters with a time of 10.77 seconds.
Rivals.com lists the 5'9" 175-pound athlete with additional offers from Cincinnati, Kansas, Ole Miss and Texas Tech.
Meanwhile, Golson originally signed with South Carolina in the 2010 class before grade issues forced him to take the JUCO route.
He is listed as a 6'3" 220-pound outside linebacker and a three-star prospect who also claims an offer from the Gamecocks in addition to WVU and Arizona.
Both prospects are expected to enroll in the summer and have three years to play two seasons in Morgantown.
