The bats were not quiet on Saturday as the Mountaineers collected two wins and 16 RBI's in their way to a victory over both Youngstown and Wake Forest.
Both juniors, Ryan McBroom and Matt Frazer, drove in RBI's for the Mountaineers to start the game against Wake Forest 2-0 in the top of the first.
Starting pitcher, Harrison Musgrave, hopes to add another victory to his record after beating North Florida University last week in Jacksonville. After getting Wake Forest to fly out three times to start the game, Musgrave allowed one run in the second following a sacrifice fly in right field by Conor Keniry scoring Matt Conway making the game 3-1.
Mountaineers took advantage of Wake Forest's pitcher, Jack Fischer. They loaded the bases with two walks and a fielding error at shortstop.
Ryan Tuntland worked the count to draw an RBI, bases loaded walk to put the Mountaineers up 4-1 to close out the top of the third inning.
Wheels began turning again for the Mountaineers in the top of the sixth inning when B. Fleming grounded out to third basemen scoring Taylor Munden at home and moving Alan Filauro from second base to third. Filauro scored on a single to right field by Jacob Rice bringing the lead to 6-1.
Joey Rodriguez homered in the bottom of the sixth helping his team bring the score to 6-2. Besides the double by M. Conway in the second inning, it was the only other extra base hit that Musgrave had allowed on the mound for the Mountaineers.
New pitcher Christian Bartholomew and teammate took the mound for Wake Forest in the top of the seventh. McBroom stayed on a tear and doubled to lead things off for the Mountaineers. A single by R. Tuntland to the left side of the field followed advancing McBroom to third base.
B. Wilson rallied behind his teammates with a double, scoring McBroom and moving R. Tuntland over to third base. T. Munden grounded out to the third basemen allowing R. Tuntland to score making the game 8-2 for the Mountaineers. Filauro singled to third base allowing Wilson to move over from second. B. Boyd put down an RBI SAC bunt down the first baseline scoring B. Wilson from third base, with B. Fleming popping out to second base to finish the top of the seventh 9-2.
H. Musgrave had an impressive start with eight innings on the mound only allowing two runs and five hits while striking out four of Wake Forest's batters. Tad Dipzisnki finished the game for Coach Mazey making the Mountaineers undefeated for Saturday with one win against Youngtown University prior to this.
