Tavon Austin stood before the media on Friday and said that he has run a 4.29 40-yard dash and hoped to break 4.40 in Sunday's drills. Many of the gathered reporters spoke about Austin's claim as though it were something he made up after he left the podium, but on Sunday, he proved himself.
In Austin's first run, he clocked in at an unofficial 4.25 seconds, the fastest at the wide receiver position and just one-hundredth of a second behind the fastest official time in Combine history when Tennessee's Chris Johnson ran a 4.24.
When the official times came out later in the day, Austin was given a 4.34.
Austin's college teammate, Stedman Bailey, had the daunting task of running next and came out with an official time of 4.52.
Watch both Austin and Bailey speak with the media earlier this week and see video of their second runs above.
