West Virginia's Tavon Austin Invited To NFL Draft

Posted:
MORGANTOWN -

West Virginia University has never had two players taken in the first round of the same NFL draft. That may change next month. Quarterback Geno Smith could be one of the first picks in the draft. Meanwhile, Wide Receiver Tavon Austin continues to generate interest as a potential first round pick himself. He was recently among a select group of players invited to attend the draft.

"I just received a call the other day that I made it to the NFL Draft in New York," Austin said. "That was the biggest surprise of all."

That is a strong indication the league feels he will be taken in the first round. Attending the NFL draft involves more than just sitting in the green room at that table with family waiting to hear your name. There are plenty of opportunities and photo ops with those players around New York City.

"I didn't make my decision final yet," Austin said with regards to accepting the invitation to attend the draft. "There are a couple of events planned for us and hopefully I get my name called on the first day."

The first round of the NFL draft is the only round that occurs on day one, which is set for April 25. Rounds two and three will take place on April 26 with rounds four through seven set for April 27.

Regardless of when his name is called, Austin is extremely excited for that day and to learn whose colors he will wear next season.

"It feels good to see my dream finally come true," Austin smiled. "It doesn't matter what team it is, I am going to work hard like I did when I came to West Virginia and hopefully big things happen for me."

Few players can do what Austin can with the ball in his hands. His speed and agility should help him not only get into the NFL, but could lead to a long career in the league.
