MORGANTOWN -

West Virginia University women's basketball Head Coach Mike Carey has an extra scholarship to fill for the coming season. Sophomore Akilah Bethel decided to leave the program.

"Akilah has chosen to leave the program," Carey said in a brief statement. "We wish her only the best and the best for her."

Bethel scored 96 points in 25 games as a freshman. That production dropped to 49 points in 16 games as a sophomore.

That brings the total number of players leaving WVU from last year's team to two. Senior Ayana Dunning completed her eligibility once last season ended. Everyone else on the team is expected to return for the 2013-2014 season.
