Former WVU Standouts Host Summer Camps Around State


It has become quite popular for former collegiate athletes to return to their hometown or where they attended college to host youth summer sports camps. Four Mountaineer athletes will follow this trend as they spearhead camps this summer throughout the state of West Virginia.


WVU Football Alumni, Josh Jenkins and Shawne Alston, will run a football camp together July 12-13th at Parkersburg High School.

The 2013 Josh Jenkins and Shawne Alston Football Camp will entail two sessions each day; 4th through 7th grade will take place 9:00am-12:00pm and 8th through 12th grade will take place from 4:00-7:00pm.

Jenkins was a starting left guard for the Mountaineers, and Alston was a force at the running back position.


Next in line, West Virginia Basketball Great, Da'Sean Butler, will bring his second annual basketball camp on the road across the Mountain State. From July 15-19th, the camp tour will makes stops in Morgantown, Keyser, Charleston and Bluefield.

Campers will take part in games, stations and skills contests, as well as receive a camp T-shirt and an autographed picture of Butler along with other camp prizes.

Monday, July 15th's camp will be held at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, July 16th at Keyser Primary Middle School in Keyser, July 18th at George Washington High School in Charleston and July 19th at Bluefield High School in Bluefield, West Virginia.

The camps will run from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. followed by an autograph session and awards ceremony.

The cost of the camp is  $75.00 and open to all.  Camp spots are limited.

To round out the "season of camps", former West Virginia Basketball Star and current Cleveland Cavalier, Kevin Jones, will run his camp on July 26-28th in Charleston, West Virginia at St. Albans High School.

The KJ5 Charleston Camp is a day camp, with hours running from 9am - 5pm Friday and Saturday with Sunday hours shortened to 10am -3pm.

The Kevin Jones Basketball Camp will include special guests; Gerard Jones and Jeremy Stout, as well as various volunteer coaches, special guests, former and current college basketball players and volunteer High School coaches.

Camp cost ranges from $159.00 - $195.00 depending on registration times, dates, and deadlines.  Anyone between the ages of seven and 16 may attend.
