CHARLESTON -

The WVU football staff continued their recent success on the recruiting trail Monday when Oviedo (Fla.) defensive end Tyree Owens announced his intentions to come to WVU.

Five days ago, the staff received word that highly-touted junior college cornerback Jaylon Myers (Hutchinson C.C.) would become a Mountaineer, and tonight Owens became the second defender to add his name to the commitment list for the 2014 recruiting class.

Owens visited Morgantown this past weekend for the one-day Showtime camp on Saturday and announced his decision this evening via a live video stream on YouTube.

He had narrowed his decision to WVU, Georgia Tech and Iowa State before ultimately picking the Mountaineers.  In addition to his three finalists, Owens also received scholarship offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Minnesota, N.C. State, Virginia, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.

Rivals.com lists the 6'3" 250-pound athlete as a three-star prospect, and OrlandoSentinel.com ranks him No. 4 in their list of the "Central Florida Top 60" prospects for 2014.

Special Teams Coordinator Joe DeForest was the lead recruiter for Owens.

He is the ninth commitment in the class and the third Floridian, joining Miami receivers Jacob McCrary and Lamar Parker, who both committed on June 18th.
