Andrew Buie Will Redshirt 2013 Season for WVU

Posted:
MORGANTOWN -

Andrew Buie's absence from the West Virginia football depth chart was no accident, head coach Dana Holgorsen revealed on Tuesday.

The junior rusher, who led the Mountaineers in rushing last season, will take a redshirt in 2013 and not participate with the team on game days. Holgorsen said the other four rushers listed on the depth chart will all see action this season, but Buie will not go unless perhaps he is needed for injury issues.

Holgorsen said that Buie had to get himself ready "mentally and physically" and had not shown he had done so to this point.

"He had some decisions. Some of these are decisions that he makes as well," Holgorsen said of Buie. "Did we force him to? No. I'm looking forward to talking about Charles Sims, Dustin Garrison, Dreamius Smith and Wendell Smallwood."

In addition to Buie, Holgorsen listed Shelton Gibson, Elijah Wellman, Jacky Marcellus, Stone Underwood, Marcel Lazard, Tyler Tezeno, D'Vante Henry, Isaac McDonald, Al-Rasheed Benton and Grant Lingafelter among those who will redshirt this season. Each of those players are newcomers this season other than Buie.

More of Holgorsen's remarks can be seen in his full press conference
