Texas Coach Mack Brown Excited to Play in West Virginia

Devin Jones, MORGANTOWN -

The Texas Longhorns make their first ever trip to the Mountain State this weekend to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers.

For long time head coach Mack Brown, this will be his first time coaching in West Virginia.

"I've never coached there," said Brown. "We're excited to play up there this weekend. They have a great fan base."

The Longhorns come into Morgantown riding a five game win streak after starting the season 1-2. Coach Brown says that the addition of veteran defensive coordinator Greg Robinson and a win against Kansas State has turned their season around.

"Beating Kansas State gave our guys a lot of confidence," said Brown. "Greg has helped our defense get back to the basics. Getting a huge win in Dallas against Oklahoma gave our guys even more confidence, and got us to this point today."

Texas will meet up with a West Virginia team that is coming off a huge win against TCU last weekend. After losing three games in a row, the Mountaineers were able to break the streak and remain alive in the race for a bowl game. Longhorn Coach Mack Brown says that despite being 4-5, West Virginia is a dangerous team.

"They are coming off a big win against TCU in overtime last weekend," said Brown. "They forced four turnovers. Trickett is playing well, and Sims is a great player. We have a huge challenge this weekend."

The road game against West Virginia is no easy task. The Mountaineers knocked off the Big 12 preseason favorite Oklahoma State early in the season, and came close to upsetting an undefeated Texas Tech team before letting an 11-point lead slip in the late stages of the game. Coach Mack Brown says that this game will be a challenge.

"They upset Oklahoma State, and gave Tech fits," said Brown. "This weekend will be a tough test on the road."

Brown also believes that defense is the key to getting a win in Morgantown.

"You have to play good defense," said Brown. "Offense is tough on the road, especially against a West Virginia team that plays good team defense."

The Longhorns will look to continue their win streak against the Mountaineers this weekend in Morgantown.
