The West Virginia University men's basketball team will travel to Washington, D.C. to face Georgetown in the first round of the NIT on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The game will be played at McDonough Arena and will be televised nationally by ESPN.
"We're happy to be able to continue play in the postseason," says coach Bob Huggins. "Obviously, we are playing a team that we are familiar with and a team that is familiar with us from our Big East battles. We've had great games recently with Georgetown and in Washington, D.C. at the NCAA tournament. Mountaineer Nation has always turned out in great numbers in games there, and I know they will be there on Tuesday."
WVU and Georgetown have met 51 times in series play with the Hoyas holding a 26-25 series advantage. The two teams last met in Morgantown on Jan. 7, 2012, with the Mountaineers defeating No. 9 Georgetown, 74-62.
West Virginia is making its 16th appearance in the NIT. The Mountaineers hold a record of 21-15 in NIT play. WVU won the NIT in 2007, its last appearance in the NIT. WVU also won the NIT in 1942.
