REPORT: Bailey Suspended Four Games

MORGANTOWN - Former West Virginia wide receiver Stedman Bailey will have to sit out the first four games of the upcoming season, according to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Rapoport tweeted on Monday afternoon that Bailey, entering his second season with the St. Louis Rams, has been suspended for a violation of the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. Bailey acknowledged his mistake through a series of tweets.

"I want to be clear that I've never taken any performance enhancing products," Bailey tweeted. "I acknowledge that a violation of league policy occurred and that I am responsible for that violation. I sincerely apologize to my Coach [Jeff] Fisher, Les Snead, Stan Kroenke, my teammates and our great fans for my mistake."

If Bailey is suspended, he will be able to go through camp with the Rams and play in preseason games before serving the suspension through the first four games of the regular season. A year ago, former WVU defensive end Bruce Irvin was hit with a similar suspension ahead of his second season with the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

Bailey was a third-round selection last year, following fellow Mountaineer receiver Tavon Austin to his new home in St. Louis. He finished his rookie campaign with 17 passes for 226 yards while getting the majority of his action on special teams duty. In a game against Tampa Bay, he took a reverse 27 yards for his first career touchdown.

In three seasons at West Virginia University, Bailey set the program record for receiving touchdowns (41) while racking up 3,208 yards on 210 catches.
