West Virginia Day Debate: WVU vs. Marshall

West Virginia turns 151 years old today and the state is in celebration mode, commemorating another year among its hills.

CampusInsiders.com wanted to honor the state’s birthday with a debate to determine West Virginia’s best football program, WVU or Marshall. I was invited to join Bonnie Bernstein and former Thundering Herd running back Doug Chapman in their Chicago studio through the wonders of Skype to discuss which program should reign supreme.

Chapman is Marshall’s second-leading rusher and was part of the 1996 national championship team and while we both agree that West Virginia as a state is wonderful, we disagree on which of its FBS programs holds the upper hand.

Really, in sports, does any statistic matter more than wins and losses? WVU has won every time it has played Marshall and Chapman himself didn’t capitalize on his own opportunity to take down the Mountaineers in the 1997 season-opener.

Still, he puts up a good fight, finding all of his ammunition in 2013’s win-loss records. Take a look at the full video HERE and add your own thoughts in the comments below.

Happy birthday, West Virginia!
